Time Management - What To Do When Every Second Counts

Effective time management is a critical skill to possess in today's society. Time is our most valuable resource and once it's gone, it's lost forever. Your ability to manage your time wisely will determine your level of accomplishment in life more than any other factor.

Benefits of Effective Time Management:

  • find out that there is time to accomplish what you want
  • reduce your stress level
  • increase your productivity
  • increase your efficiency

One of the biggest obstacles for people working from home is the distractions they must deal with on a daily basis. Learning how to eliminate them, however, can be quite a challenge. Here are a few time management tips that you may find helpful...

Friends & Family: This is the hardest group of people to deal with when working from home. You must let them know that between certain hours of the day you are simply not available. Let them know that you will be happy to talk with them when you are done working.

If you have children, then you must make your time go even farther. Kids like routine, so have a set schedule of when mommy/daddy is working. This way everyone in the house understands that you are not to be disturbed during that time unless it's an emergency. Be sure to schedule regular time with your kids so they know they are just as important as your business.

Phone Calls: To keep on your daily routine, you'll need to get in the habit of screening all calls. Answering every phone call and dealing with the callers needs is a major distraction. This way you'll avoid solicitors and friends and family that just want to chat.

Email: This is a great way for us to stay connected, but it can prove to be a huge distraction too. You should set up separate email accounts for work and personal use. Do not use work time to read ezines, newsletters, and personal email. You may also want to set up specific times of the day to check your inbox. For example, the first thing you do in the office each morning and the last thing before calling it a day.

TV & Radio: Having these things on in the background may seem harmless, but they are additing and distracting to our thoughts. If there are programs on that you don't want to miss then record them for a later time.

Drive Time University: Turn your travel time into personal development time. Listen to educational cds in your car and greatly increase your success curve.

Everyone must learn to manage his or her time wisely. Effective time management can be achieved by making small changes in the way you do your daily tasks.

Make every minute count!
